The entire Western Region Chairmen of the governing Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) last Friday 25th July 2025 officially unanimously endorsed Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, the leading aspirant for the coveted position of National Chairman of the party.

Hundreds of delegates and thousands of supporters converged on the SLPP Headquarters on Wallace Johnson Street in Freetown for the leading candidate's official endorsement in a very colourful ceremony that was dubbed the national endorsement of Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa.

What surprised the jubilant crowd at the party headquarters was when over forty (40) delegates travelled from Kailahun District, the home of Amara Jambai Kanneh, another aspirant for the National Chairman position, to officially declare for Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa.

According to Chairman Morie Feika of Constituencty 004 in Kailahun District, who led the delegation, those claiming that the district presented Amara Jambai Kanneh as its candidate is untrue.

"Somebody handpicked him to contest for the position of National Chairman, Chairman Morie Feika, who is also Chairman of all SLPP Constituency Chairmen in the district, claimed, adding, "If Kailahun District wants to present a candidate for the National Chairman position, we will do it the Kailahun way."

The Chairman reiterated that they have officially endorsed Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, who they believe will be the next SLPP National Chairman.
