The current Clerk of Parliament, Paran Umar Tarawally, on Friday 1st August 2025, resigned as Clerk of Parliament.
The resignation of Paran Umar Tarawally comes following a pledge he made during his campaign tours that "If you elect me as your National Secretary General, I will resign my job as Clerk of Parliament to sit in the Party Office and work for you."
Paran Tarawally had a landslide victory for the position of National Secretary General of the governing Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) in the just concluded 14th National Delegates Conference held in Freetown.
In his acceptance speech at the party headquarters in Freetown, Paran Tarawally assured supporters that under his dynamic and indefatigable leadership, SLPP will be the first political party in Sierra Leone to rule the country for 15 years after the 2028 national elections.
He extended thanks to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio for his mentorship and acknowledged the support of key figures, including the Honourable Vice President, First Lady, Chief Minister, current and past Members of Parliament, as well as supporters across the country.
It could be recalled that Paran Tarawally's candidacy and continued tenure as Clerk of Parliament had sparked significant controversy in recent months, leading to his administrative leave from parliamentary role as of 20th June, 2025.
