The Chief Minister, David Moinina Sengeh, has conveyed his appreciation to the National Advisory Committee (NAC) of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party for their willingness to engage in peaceful discussions with the Independent Commission for Peace.

Amidst a backdrop of tensions, the APC party had previously chosen not to collaborate with the current administration, instructing all of their elected officials to abstain from participating in the country’s government system. The stance had ignited intense debates and fervent discussions among various sectors of Sierra Leonean society in recent times.

A notable perspective emerging from within the Sierra Leonean society suggests that the APC’s decision to embrace a dialogue for peace with both the Commission and the Government might have been influenced by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland KC.

The leader of the APC, Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, promptly endorsed the idea of engaging in peace talks following the Secretary General’s statement.

In his official statement, the Chief Minister expressed his contentment, stating, “I am pleased to witness constructive deliberations between our counterparts in the APC party and the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion. It is heartening to observe their willingness to participate in dialogue with the Government through our national institutions. Together, we strive for a united Sierra Leone.”

Meanwhile, The Satellite gathered at the weekend that the 52 elected Members of Parliament, who are yet to take their seats in Parliament following the June 24 multitier elections, are still pleading with their leader, Samura Kamara, to fulfill the contract they have signed to represent their people in the honourable House.
