Honourable Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh last Friday 16th August, 2024 commissioned a solar mini grid facility at Kalangba Town in Lokomasama Chiefdom, Port Loko District that would enable hundreds of residents and businesses to benefit from reliable and affordable electricity supply.
The commissioning of the solar mini grid in the township is a move that is consistent with His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio's aspirations to upscale access to rural energy. Welcoming the Vice President, Paramount Chief of Lokomasama Chiefdom, PC Shebora Raka III, said his chiefdom was honoured to host one of their sons of the soil.
He described the Vice President as someone who truly loves Lokomasama.
PC Raka III praised the government for the facility, noting that the provision of electricity in his chiefdom will positively impact livelihoods, education and health.
While turning on the light, Vice President Juldeh Jalloh thanked President Bio for being service and delivery focused, assuring that communities like Babara, Kalangba Junction, Petifu and Gbinti will soon be illuminated.
He said over 103 communities nationwide have now been connected to mini grids, adding that there was an inextricable nexus between quality education, good healthcare delivery and electricity.
Vice President Jalloh appealed to the people to own and protect the mini grid, adding that Lokomasama will always be close to his heart.
Deputy Minister of Energy l, Dr. Eldred Taylor, thanked the community for their support in the realization of the project.
He said his Ministry was sparing no efforts in connecting rural communities to mini grids.
Dr. Taylor described the facility as durable, dependable and affordable. He thanked the Vice President for championing the cause of his people.
Head of Marketing at PowerLeone, Emmanuel Harding, said the institution was charged with the responsibility of monitoring those providing services for customers.
He assured that the Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) was not oblivious of the need for the people to enjoy quality and affordable services.
Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Emmanuel Junisa, gave an overview of the project.
The Head of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Energy, Hon. Kekura Vandi, and Honourable Members of Parliament from the chiefdom were present at the occasion.
With the energy sector and the ‘Feed Salone’ agenda being inextricably linked, reforms continue in the sector.
