The honourable Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has bade farewell to a team of twenty (20) professional health officers heading to Rwanda to assist in the Marburg virus outbreak response.
This marks the fourth team Sierra Leone has deployed to support international emergency health efforts, leveraging the nation’s experience in handling such crises. Marburg virus disease (MVD) is a severe and often fatal illness caused by the Marburg virus, a member of the same family as the Ebola Virus. It is a rare but highly contagious disease that can spread through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals or contaminated surfaces.
In his speech, VP Juldeh Jalloh emphasized that the team represents a progressive country making global strides, citing recent achievements like the $480 million MCC Compact and reduced maternal mortality rates.
He urged the team to uphold professionalism, cultural sensitivity, teamwork, and to bring pride to the nation. The mission is in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization (WHO) and NPHA, reinforcing Sierra Leone’s commitment to global health security.
Dr. Boi Jalloh, the team leader, expressed confidence in their ability to provide crucial training and care.
