The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has announced the postponement of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) lower-level elections due to allegations of unauthorized alterations of the delegates’ list.
In a formal letter addressed to the SLPP, the PPRC stated that the postponement follows the publication of the party’s executive lists for the elections.
According to the Commission, it received multiple petitions contesting these lists, with allegations that they have been altered, leading to the omission and replacement of individuals who had legitimately won in earlier stages of the electoral process.
The PPRC expressed concern that proceeding with the elections under these circumstances could exacerbate tensions within the party and potentially lead to violence, adding that to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, the Commission has no choice but to postpone the elections until the executive lists are harmonized and the concerns raised in the petitions are satisfactorily addressed.
The harmonization process is set to commence today Wednesday 30th April, 2025. District Chairpersons and members from affected sections, zones, chiefdoms, or constituencies are invited to the PPRC offices on the scheduled dates to participate in this process.
