The Sierra Leone Police have declared over one hundred individuals wanted in connection with alleged same-sex activities, including SHEKU KAMARA and MOHAMED KOROMA. Reports indicate that the two men were discovered engaging in homosexual acts in the Goderich Peninsula area, located in the west end of Freetown. MOHAMED KOROMA was reportedly beaten to death following the incident.
According to police reports, SHEKU KAMARA was born on September 16, 1996, in Pengedu, Kono District, while the late MOHAMED KOROMA was born on April 20, 1998, in the same district. Both men were identified as Muslims. Authorities say the individuals were found in a compromising position in a nearby bush, where a Samsung mobile phone and an orange SIM card were seized as evidence.
Further investigations suggest that SHEKU KAMARA and the late MOHAMED KOROMA were prominent figures in promoting and engaging in homosexual practices within the community. The police report also alleges that SHEKU KAMARA played a significant role in the death of his partner, MOHAMED KOROMA, who was fatally beaten after suspicions of homosexual activity arose.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that several raids have been conducted in the area in an attempt to apprehend SHEKU KAMARA in connection with the death of MOHAMED KOROMA. However, the suspect remains at large, and his current whereabouts are unknown.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) visited both the crime scene and SHEKU KAMARA's residence. According to a police press briefing, SHEKU managed to flee shortly after the incident became public.
Same-sex relationships are criminalized under Sierra Leone’s 1991 Constitution, with penalties including a minimum prison sentence of fifteen (15) years. During the search of SHEKU KAMARA's residence in the Goderich community, several local residents reportedly expressed anger and made threats of violence against him.
Local sources told this medium that SHEKU KAMARA has not been seen since the incident and is believed to have gone into hiding. Neighbours have expressed outrage and disappointment over the allegations.
The Goderich Police Division has announced a reward for credible information leading to the arrest of SHEKU KAMARA. It is also alleged that both he and the deceased had been involved in same-sex activities for over a decade and were actively recruiting other youths into the practice.
