The Ambassador of Ethiopia to China, H.E. Tefea Derbew paid a courtesy visit to his Sierra Leonean counterpart, H.E. Abu Bakarr Karim at the Sierra Leonean Embassy in Beijing. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and securing Sierra Leone’s support for Ethiopia’s efforts to maintain peace and stability with neighboring Eritrea.
During the discussions, the Ethiopian Ambassador emphasized his country’s commitment to upholding the peace agreement signed between Ethiopia and Eritrea. He assured that Ethiopia remains dedicated to dialogue and diplomatic engagement to ensure lasting peace in the Horn of Africa.
“Ethiopia is determined to comply with the terms of the agreement and foster peaceful coexistence with Eritrea,” the Ambassador stated. “We seek the support of Sierra Leone and the broader international community in reinforcing stability in our region.”
In response, Ambassador Karim commended Ethiopia’s peace efforts and pledged to relay the concerns to his government. “Sierra Leone stands in solidarity with nations striving for peace and security,” he said. “We will communicate Ethiopia’s position to our headquarters and wish the region success in maintaining peace and order.”
The meeting highlights Ethiopia’s diplomatic push to garner regional and global backing as it navigates complex relations with Eritrea. Both ambassadors reaffirmed the importance of African solidarity in resolving continental disputes.
As Ethiopia continues its peace-building initiatives, collaborations with fellow African nations, Sierra Leone could play a crucial role in ensuring long-term stability in the Horn of Africa.
