President Julius Maada Bio and Vice President Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh joined thousands of Muslims nationwide to celebrate the Feast of Eid-Ul-Fitri on Friday June 15 2018 by joining worshippers at the National Stadium main bowl for prayers.
Dressed in white flowing caftan and cap, President Bio and VP Jalloh led their fellow faithful in giving thanks and praises to Almighty Allah for seeing the nation peacefully through the month long Ramadan period.
Delivering the sermon, the officiating Imam, Sheik Abu Bakarr Conteh, admonished all Muslims to maintain the discipline learned in the Holy month of Ramadan.
After the prayers, President Bio said, he prioritizes the life, development and progress of every Sierra Leonean. He said it is god for us all to celebrate the end of Ramadan as one family in an atmosphere of peace, security and stability. He pledged to uphold religious tolerance.
VP Jalloh also noted that Sierra Leone is a shiny example of peaceful and harmonious co-existence between Muslims and Christians that dates back to pre-independence days.The ceremony was also attended by the First Lady, Madam Fatima Bio and Speaker of the House of Parliament, Dr. Abass Chernoh Bundu.
Meanwhile, the Muslim leadership across the nation has praised President Bio and the government for instituting a ban on the procession of “devils” on Pray Day, as they consider it ungodly.
