Unknown gunmen on Wednesday, 20th September 2023, raided the residence of Mohamed Samai at No. 17 Vincent Drive, Lumley in the capital, Freetown, and shot his elder brother, Saidu Samai, at close range and died on the spot.

On Saidu's arrival at the residence of his younger brother, he was told that Mohamed had travelled to Ghana together with his wife, to relieve himself of the truma he was going through following his brutal attack on the highway by unknown gunmen, as well as the persistent unknown calls threatening to kill him at all costs.
According to police statement, on Wednesday 20th September 2023, when four hefty men disguised in masks raided Mohamed Samai's residence and enquired about him.
One of those residing in the premises, John Sannoh, who wasn't satisfied with the looks of the gallant men, told them that Mohamed Samai was out of the premises. But the unknown men insisted that they have a package for him which they wanted to drop at the door, using the package as a prank to enter into the premises and see whether Mohamed Samai was inside the premises.
At Mohamed's apartment, his elder brother Saidu Samai asked the invading gallant men to know why they were searching for his younger brother, but they took umbrage at his effrontery to question them.
One of them eventually shot Saidu Samai at close range, and they quickly escaped from the scene.
Saidu Samai, who was bleeding profusely from the gunshot wounds and struggling on the floor, gave up the ghost on the same Wednesday evening.
The matter was immediately reported to the police, and Saidu Samai's corpse was taken to the morgue, the results of which indicated that he died of gunshot wounds.
As a Muslim, Saidu Samai's remains were buried in Freetown the following Thursday, 21st September.
This ugly development took place after Mohamed Samai was attacked on the highway by unknown gunmen on Monday 10th January 2022, when he was returning to Freetown from an official duty in the provinces.
According to confirmed police reports, on that day, unknown gunmen forcefully stopped Mohamed Sam ai's vehicle on the highway at gunpoint and was ordered to alight from the vehicle. They then commanded that their leader wanted to see him.
But Mohamed Samai, in no uncertain terms, refused to go with them to their leader. The unknown gunmen threatened that if he refused to follow them to their leader, they would torture him to death. During the altercation, Mohamed Samai felt a hit on the back of his head.
The young man only saw himself admitted to the 34 Military Hospital at Wilberforce Barracks in Freetown, where he was informed that some travelers picked him up on the side of the highway in a state of coma, bleeding, and seriously injured.
The unknown gunmen stole everything he had in his possession and abandoned him on the roadside, thinking that he would not survive the torture he went through.
Mohamed Samai was admitted to the hospital for several months, while the matter was also reported to the police for investigation. But the law enforcers woefully shrugged aside the matter and never investigated it.
The failure of the police to investigate the matter prompted Mohamed Samai to travel to Ghana together with his wife and be relieved of the trauma he was going through.
Despite Mohamed Samai and his wife being out of Sierra Leone, unknown gunmen raided his apartment at 17 Vincent Drive Freetown and shot his visiting elder brother to death after unknown gunmen almost got him killed on the highway.
The killing of Mohamed Samai's visiting elder brother at his own residence in Freetown has raised some eyebrows over his and his family's safety in Sierra Leone.
