The New General Manager of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority, Dr. Abdulai Fofana on last Tuesday made his first official inspection tour on the Bollore Port Expansion project.
The New General Manager was accompanied by the Minister of Transport and Aviation, the Chairman of the National Commission for Privatization and the Chairman of SLPA Board of Directors.
Responding to journalists after the inspection tour, Dr. Fofana said he was impressed with the construction of the new berth by Bollore but said his administration would look into the funds invested in the project against the work done.
“My administration will ensure that the project is in the best interest of the country. We will therefore call on experts to look into the value of the work done against the resources invested in it.”
Earlier on, the new General Manager has vowed to incorporate the President’s New Direction Agenda in his administration to transform the port making it a transhipment hub in the sub region.
“My Administration will regulate the port sector and deliver effective and efficient port services to facilitate international trade and foster national economic growth in a safe Secured and customer-friendly environment.”
Expansion project work on the 270 meter container terminal extension at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Freetown has been fully completed before the targeted completion date of September 2018 by Bollore Transport and Logistics, a renowned port handler in France with branches across the globe.
During the briefing at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay, the Country Manager of Bollore Transport and Logistics, Fabjanko Kokan said that the $120 million (one hundred and twenty million dollars) investment is in line with government’s development aspirations to transform the Queen Elizabeth II Quay into a large state-of the art transshipment hub in West Africa.
He said that the Freetown Container Terminal extension works which commenced just over two years will create job opportunities, raise the port’s level of income and revenue generation.
