The newly appointed Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, Professor Kelfala Morana Kallon, assumed office on Wednesday 3rdOctober, 2018, following his appointment by H E the President Brig. Rtd. Julius Maada Bioand endorsement by Parliament on 2nd October, 2018.


During his first day in office, he held meetings with Heads of Departments of the Bank who congratulated him on his appointment and assured him of their cooperation and support.

In his initial comments, Prof. Kallon thanked all for the warm reception and noted their pledged support. He specifically thanked the Deputy Governor, Dr Ibrahim L Stevens for diligently holding the fort and providing leadership until his appointment.

Professor Kelfala Kallon holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia and a BA. (Summa Cum Laude), Methodist College, Fayetteville, North Carolina.

He has for the past 25 years served as Professor of Economics at the College of Humanities & Social Sciences, University of Northern Colorado (UNC). Prior to UNC, he held faculty positions at the University of West Florida (1983-87) and Gettysburg College (1987-93) where he taught Principles of Economics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, History of Economic Thought, International Trade and Finance, and

Advanced Macroeconomic Theory and Policy.

He is accredited with a number of publications and two books namely, TheP olitical Economy of Corruption in Sierra Leone (2004) and The Economics of Sierra Leonean Entrepreneurship (1990). He has received several awards and accreditations including the Dupont Fellow, from the University of Virginia. (1980), Dupont Fellow from the University of Virginia. (1979), the Methodist College Scholars (1976), and Pi Gamma Nu, National Social Science Honorary Society award in (1976).
