The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) Ken Philip Sondai, has donated fifty life jackets to the people of Mabang.
After the collapse of the ferry, locally made boats became the means of crossing in that part of the country and there was no life jacket for boat operators and passengers.
Distributing over seven million Leones worth of jackets, the Executive Director said that Maritime has the mandate to protect the lives of Sierra Leoneans by enforcing safety measures at sea.
He said that when news of the broken ferry reached them, they decided to do something that will help to save the lives of passengers.
He called on boat owners to always caution passengers to put on life jackets and follow safety precautions. He promised to station a Maritime traffic regulator there to help strengthen safety laws there.
Section Chief Ibrahim Pa Alimamy, said that such has never been done before and that they are going to ensure that life jacket becomes mandatory for every passenger in Mabang. Credit: News24
