The life of one Mariatu Sesay whose whereabouts remain since she went into hiding in 2006 is in great danger.

Reports reaching The Satellite Newspaper indicate that after the death of her mother, Yadigba was approached by the council of elders of the Bondo Society that her late mother was the head Sowei (initiator) of, to step into her shoes.

She was told by the elders that she was bound by tradition to take up her mother’s role and will not take no from her as an answer.

When she told them that the government and the international community now frowns on the culture which involves FGM, and as such refused to step into her mother’s shoes, the Bondo elders threatened that she was putting her life in jeopardy.

Reports further indicated that Mariatu fled from where she lived in Kalaba Town in the east end of Freetown and went into hiding in Brookfields in the west end of the city.

Word somehow got to the Kalaba town Bondo Society that Mariatu was somewhere in hiding in Brookfields.

Afraid that if she was caught, the Soweis will take her into their sacred bush for punishment, she appealed to one of her father’s close friends to help her leave the shores of Sierra Leone for a safe haven.

Since that time Mariatu’s whereabouts are unknown, with her family members desperate to know where she is and whether she is alive or
not.
