The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gento Construction Company, Mr. Ahmed Gento Kamara, has disclosed to The Satellite News Desk that supporters of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party are spreading all kinds of malicious news on social media about him following his address at the Temne Central Mosque at Wilfree Street off Patton Street in the eastern part of Freetown.

Speaking to The Satellite, the energetic, proactive young man, Ahmed Gento Kamara, averred that his message to the Muslim congregation in that mosque was totally misconstrued by his main rival supporters as religious bigotry.

According to the mayoral candidate for the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the Freetown Western Area Urban, “I’m very religious and I believe in religious tolerance. My wife is a Christian as well as my mother and I always patronise with them whenever they have Christian programmes. What I mentioned after the Juma Prayers was that my closest rival for the mayoral position, Yvonne Aki-Sawyer, who as a Christian has also appointed a Christian as her running-mate for the Saturday 24th June, 2023 mayoral election in Freetown.”

He questioned the rationale behind Yvonne Aki Sawyer’s appointment of a Christian as her running-mate in a country with religious tolerance, adding, it is incorrect given that Sierra Leone is a religiously tolerant country worthy of emulation.

Gento also expressed his determination to continue meeting with the people in the municipality to cajole them into voting for him in the forthcoming mayoral election, noting that no amount of malicious rumours, lies or negative media coverage will deter him from vividly pursuing his objective, which is to become the next Mayor of the Freetown City Council (FCC) to serve Freetownians and the municipality with great diligence.
