Thousands of Sierra Leoneans at both home and abroad will on Tuesday 25th April, 2023 be yearning to listen and view live on television the address of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio to the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone before the august body will finally dissolve for the Saturday 24th June, 2023 presidential, parliamentary and local government elections.
In his address to Parliament, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio is expected to highlight the numerous achievements his Government has made in five years in respect of the 2018 manifesto he presented to the people of Sierra Leoneans, such as his flagship programme – the Free Quality School Education (FQSE), improvement in service delivery and infrastructure development in the healthcare sector, the expansion of the national grid and rural electrification powered by mini solar grid, the rebranding of Sierra Leone globally to regain her exuberant past, amongst numerous other achievements.
The President is also expected to elaborate on the economy his Government inherited from the erstwhile Government of former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, the current economic challenges given the global trend amidst multiple crises around the world, and efforts his Government has made to mitigate those challenges, such as elevating revenue mobilization through reforms and legislative changes, prudent expenditure management to support financing of poverty reduction and growth oriented programmes, among others.
President Bio, as expected, will also reiterate his determination to prioritize agriculture during in his second term just as he prioritized education in his first term of office.
Parliament will finally dissolve after the address of the President before the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) will release its timetable for the commencement of political campaigns
