Nectar Sierra Leone Bulk Terminal (NSBT), one of the key operators at the Freetown Port - the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), has been honoured with a Special Achievement Award at the 2025 International Bulk Journal (IBJ) Awards.
NSBT acknowledged the vital support and partnership of SLPHA and its current senior management, whose collaboration and guidance have been instrumental in driving ongoing improvements across the port to the benefit of all stakeholders.
The award recognizes Freetown Port’s outstanding contributions to the global maritime bulk industry at the this year’s IBJ Awards ceremony which took place on the 17th November at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.
According to the citation, Special Achievement Award on Cargo Handling is a category reserved for organisations that demonstrate exceptional accomplishments within the global dry bulk sector. The honour highlights NSBT’s successful completion of the new third berth at the Queen Elizabeth II Terminal, as well as the terminal’s continued development, enhanced cargo-handling efficiencies, and ongoing operational upgrades.

Accepting the award on behalf of the terminal and the Freetown Port, NSBT General Manager Siamba Kamara expressed deep appreciation:
“We are profoundly honoured to receive this distinguished award which reaffirms our commitment, dedication , and resilience in improving the standards of cargo handling.”
The award is viewed not only as a privilege but also as an inspiration to continue leading and contributing to the growth and success of the Freetown port. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Nectar Group, the NSBT team, SLPHA, all our partners, and the wider community.
NSBT Director Guy Wilkes added that the award represents a significant achievement not only for the employees and management of NSBT but also the leadership and staff of SLPHA and for the nation as a whole.
SLPHA continues to attract praise and recognition for its increasing efficiency, productivity, and growing influence in the maritime and shipping sectors.
