World Vision Country Director James Chifwelu at a ceremony at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation on Thursday 30th January, 2020, generously donated medicines and food for malnourished children and 16 motor cycles to the Ministry.

The medicines and food are for the benefit of 2, 300 malnourished children in the country.

In his remarks, the acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Donald Bash Taqi thanked World Vision for the generous humanitarian donation, which he said, is linked to His Excellency

President Bio’s human capital development project.

Dr Taqi said children that are undernourished have poor cognitive ability and cannot pay attention in school. That way, he said, the country produces a cycle of people that are not fit for development. He described the World Vision donation as a life saver.

The CMO called on other donor partners to emulate World Vision’s example for which he asked for a big hand.

Earlier, the MoHS Director of Nutrition, Madam Aminata in thanking World Vision, gave the statistic of chronically malnourished children in the country.

World Vision Country Director, James Chifwelu in his remarks said the donation was to complement the ministry’s efforts at reducing malnutrition.

He appreciated the ministry’s open door policy which paved the way for the donation.

A lot, he said, has to be done and World Vision would do more. The donation of ready to use food which he called a token was from the available resources for the children that are most affected by malnutrition.

He reported that World Vision’s humanitarian interventions in Sierra Leone spanned over a period of 23 years with the last ten years seeing focus in the districts of Bo, Pujehun, Moyamba, Kono and lately Falaba, places the Permanent Secretary, Abdul Fofana, described as
hard to reach.

Mr. Chifwelu emphasized that the gesture is about saving lives, something World Vision, he said, remains committed to.

This, he said was not the end of such donations. He called for strong partnership with MoHS with whom he said World Vision has a good working relationship to collaborate and plan together in the interest of the children.

He thanked the ministry for its open door policy.
