Orange Sierra Leone, the undisputed leader in the telecoms industry of Sierra Leone on Tuesday 2nd May, 2023 commenced its annual ‘Environmental Health and Safety Week’ celebrations with the theme: “Taking Sustainable steps to reduce carbon footprint.”
The day was set aside to help raise awareness on environmental safety and protection.
In her statement, Orange (SL) General Secretary and Chief Climate Officer, Danetta Younge, said this year’s theme was in line with the Orange Group’s target of achieving zero carbon emission by 2040.
According to her, the day was remarkable for the company as they set aside a week dedicated towards reinforcing their commitment to environmental responsibility as a company.
“This week we will engage in several activities, planting of 3,000 trees at the mudslide site at Mogema, a tour of the solar facility installed at our sites along with the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), an EHS day and departmental and employee plant competition” she said.
She further underscored the importance of health and safety in the workplace and urge everyone to take care of their mental and emotional wellbeing.
“ I encourage everyone of take action our daily lives, no matter how small towards protecting our environment. Simple actions such using less electricity consumption, saving on fuel consumption, planting flowers can make a great impact” Orange (SL) Chief Climate Officer said.
The week long activity will be marked by series of activities demonstrate their environmental responsibility such as the planting of 1,000 (one thousand) tree by employees and external stakeholders, desk plants competition and EHS Week and symposium.
