The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt, and the National Tourist Board (NTB) on Saturday 6th May, 2023 launched the popularization through digital access of the first Integrated National Tourism Hospitality Curriculum held at the prestigious Family Kingdom complex, Aberdeen in Freetown.
Speaking at the launch, the proactive Minister of Tourism, Dr. Memunatu Pratt said she felt honoured to launch the National Tourism Hospitality Curriculum that would help develop the future of the tourism sector in Sierra Leone.
She heaped praises on His Excellency President Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio for giving her the honour to be the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.
The Minister added that the professionals at the Ministry of Tourism were working assiduously to ensure they actualized His Excellency’s dreams of tourism. "We have done a lot to rebrand the country and very soon the National Development Tourism Act will come to effect," the Minister disclosed.
She furthered that very soon the 24 bedrooms rehabilitation Tourism Training School Centre would soon be commissioned by President Bio, adding that the Curriculum would help students both locally and internationally that want to pursue tourism as their profession. "We have trained a lot of sectors including the social media bloggers, print and electronic media, civil society organizations, Women in Tourism, entertainers among others through the EIF funded project and Government of Sierra Leone," the Minister said.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the event, Madam Fatmata Carew, disclosed that Sustainable Tourism Development and Promotion Project (STDPP) of the Enhanced Integrated Framework Tier 2 supported the development of the National Tourism and Hospitality Curriculum for both Bachelor and Higher National Diploma and Certificate.
She also disclosed that the total fund committed was huge for a period of three years from 2012-2015 to undertake development initiatives that covers from four components including Sector Governance, Product Development, Marketing and Capacity Building.
